ICEA Chess Workshop #10

Kids Chess Workshop Description

We will play chess games against each other and games will be analyzed by Coaches from ICEA Chess Team. Children will get to experience the environment and the nature of playing a chess tournament. It is a great opportunity for kids wanting to step up their game in chess, as well as ones who just want to have fun with chess.  If time allows, there will also be a simul which will be more fun, as well as challenging.

  • 4:45 pm – 4:55 pm: Check-in, Welcome & Introduction
  • 4:55 pm – 5:35 pm: Lectures
  • 5:35 pm – 6:40 pm: Quads Tournaments
  • 6:40 pm – 6:45 pm: Awards Ceremony

Price: $30 / kid

All proceeds will go to the ICEA Chess Club fund to host more chess events.

Prize:

Medals or Gifts will be presented to winner of each quad.

About Coach Alex Wang (National Master):

Alex Wang is a 10th grader at Corona Del Mar high school and a National Master with a peak USCF rating of 2266. Other hobbies that he likes to do are ping-pong and reading. He enjoys sharing his understanding of chess with others. Alex is also the captain of ICEA Chess Team for 2023 SoCal. SuperStates Championship and lead the team won the 1st place of K-12 Championship.

 

About Coach Felix:

 

Felix Guo is a 7th grader from Windward School. He has been teaching Math & Chess classes since 2020. He has instructed more than 100 kids in math and more than 10 students got national winner awards. He founded ICEA Chess Club in 2020. Felix Guo is top 44 of Age 12 with a peak rating of 1990. Felix represented the ICEA Chess Team in the K-8 Championship for 2023 SoCal. SuperStates Championship, and won the U12 Blitz Champion of 2023 Pan-American Youth Chess Festival and the Champion of 2023 World Open Blitz Championship (U2000 Section).

 

About Coach Esther Jou

Esther Jou is a 10th grader at Acaciawood Prep in Anaheim and a USCF Expert with a peak rating of 2064. She is a competitive chess player and has many accomplishments, such as winning the 56th Annual American Open U1600, 2nd place in the 32nd Annual North American Open U2100. Esther is also team member of ICEA Chess Team for 2023 SoCal. SuperStates Championship and won the top female in K-12 championship and is nominated to represent Southern California in the WIM Ruth Haring National Tournament of Girls State Champions. She is USChess top list chess player (#3 for Top Girls Age 15, #57 for Top Age 15, and #59 Top Women in the US). She enjoys helping her friends with chess as well as playing volleyball and the guitar in her spare time.

 

About Coach Angela Liu

Angela Liu is 14 years old, a FIDE Woman Candidate Master and U.S. Candidate Master. She started to play chess at 10 years old and improved her USCF rating by ~1000 to 2124 in the past two years. Angela is a competitive chess player (#3 for Top Girls Age 14, and #24 for Top Girls Under 21 in the U.S.). Recently, Angela won a bronze medal at the 2023 Pan-American Chess Championship (Under 16 Girls) and was awarded the WCM title. Angela is passionate about introducing chess to more kids and growing the chess community. Angela has many other hobbies such as playing tennis and drawing.
