Writing Class 1:  Brainstorm! Write up a storm!

Class Description

  • Ponder the topic of the week
  • Brainstorm ideas as a class
  • How to transfer our thoughts to paper
  • Ask questions to want to know more
  • Continue our creative thinking and writing on homework

Writing Class 2:  Multi-Paragraph Essay Writing

Class Description

In this class, we will practice using information from multiple texts to respond to prompts.  Students will write in organized paragraphs and learn ways to elevate their vocabulary, sentence structure and overall quality of their writing. Students will have the opportunity to write an essay each class and we will focus on one part of it at a time in order to improve its quality.  By the end, they will have strong, multi-paragraph writing pieces!

Writing Class 3:  Making Marvelous Mysteries

Class Description

What makes an unforgettable mystery story? In this class, we will investigate the elements of a thrilling mystery in order to create our own.  We will use all nine sessions to create one master mystery short story. Our writing will include action and character development.  We will also learn how to extend our writing through sensory details and dialogue in order to develop our story further.  In the end, we will have a mystery to intrigue and puzzle our readers!

About Teacher Tanya:

Teacher Tanya has been teaching for over 29 years.  The last 21 years she has been teaching at Wildwood School in Los Angeles, CA. She attended an international high school in Europe and studied Early Childhood Education at UCLA.  She speaks several different languages and is passionate about educating children. She is the most popular teacher of ICEA teaching programs.

About Teacher Ms. Rachael:

Rachael has been an educator for over 12 years.  She currently teaches fifth grade in Aurora, Colorado.  She earned her undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology and Spanish at Colgate University.  She received her masters in elementary education from Johns Hopkins University. Rachael is passionate about educating children and believes that every child can be successful with the right amount of support and resources. In her spare time, she likes to read, play Harry Potter trivia and bake treats from scratch.
