Book To Read: Where the Mountain Meets the Moon

Class Description

In this class, students will complete a book study on Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin. As students read the book, they will practice important skills in order to improve their reading comprehension and levels. Some of the skills that we will focus on are:

  • Developing vocabulary
  • Writing short answer responses
  • Analyzing characters
  • Investigating figurative language

Book Summary

In the valley of Fruitless Mountain, a young girl named Minli spends her days working hard in the fields and her nights listening to her father spin fantastic tales about the Jade Dragon and the Old Man of the Moon. Minli’s mother, tired of their poor life, chides him for filling her head with nonsense. But Minli believes these enchanting stories and embarks on an extraordinary journey to find the Old Man of the Moon and ask him how her family can change their fortune.

  • 7/11: Chapters 1-6
  • 7/12: Chapters 7-12
  • 7/13: Chapters 13-18
  • 7/14: Chapters 18-24
  • 7/18: Chapters 25-30
  • 7/19: Chapters 31-36
  • 7/20: Chapters 37-42
  • 7/21: Chapters 43-48

About Teacher Ms. Rachael:

Rachael has been an educator for over 13 years.  She currently teaches writing class in Aurora, Colorado.  She received her masters in elementary education from Johns Hopkins University. Rachael is passionate about educating children and believes that every child can be successful with the right amount of support and resources. In her spare time, she likes to read, play Harry Potter trivia and bake treats from scratch.
